M2A Capsule Endoscopy
A revolutionary technology for diagnosing small intestine disorders
Family Surgical is now among the first in the nation to use a clinically proven medical technology that allows its physicians to see what no one has ever been able to fully capture before -- the entire 21 feet of the human small intestine. The M2A Capsule Endoscope, or camera in a pill, was developed to give patients a noninvasive option for diagnosis of certain small intestine disorders. The M2A capsule is easily swallowed, travels painlessly through the digestive tract, and is naturally passed from the body.
How does it work?
The process is simple. The patient simply swallows the capsule with a sip of water. The capsule captures color video images as it travels through the digestive system, and transmits these images to a small recorder unit, located on a belt worn by the patient. During the "examination" the patient is free to continue with normal daily activities. After eight hours, the patient returns the recorder to Family Surgical where the data is downloaded and analyzed by the doctor.
Clinically proven as an effective diagnostic tool.
The M2A Capsule Endoscope is a clinically proven medical technology that helps the doctors at Family Surgical diagnose various small intestine disorders including obscure bleeding, Crohn's disease, malabsorption, and unexplained abdominal pain. It is also used to diagnose patients that have a family history of small bowel cancer.
The convenient camera-in-a-pill provides an inside view of the 21-foot-long small intestine and has been covered by national and local news broadcasts. Advantages of the imaging system include:
-
Noninvasive, painless procedure
-
High quality images of the entire small bowel
-
Ambulatory examination
-
Does not require air insufflation
